The seven Shards and Seals are attributed to the Soulstone and serve to bind the Universe together. Six of them have already been broken throughout the last centuries by Florentine and his acolytes, as described in his journal. Hence, the first Seal upon the first Shard was broken around the 24th of January 1330; the second one was broken around the year 1420; the journal doesn't disclose the dates on when the third and fourth Seals were broken; the breaking of the fifth Seal occured on the 2nd of October 1783; the sixth Seal was broken around the year 1929. Once the last Seal is broken, as Hawk warns, the world will be plunged into darkness. If this happens, Gaul will become the new Host to the Power of all Darkness and mankind will be doomed.

Disguised as Elias Camber, Florentine sent the six broken Seals in a parcel to Adam in order to lure him to the Cornish mansion.

Theological Background[]

The seven seals is a concept of Christian eschatology, stemming from the Book of Revelation in the Christian Bible, where a book with seven seals is described in Revelation 5:1[1]. The seven seals are opened by the Lamb[2] (presumably Jesus), one by one. Each opening of a seal is followed by some event or series of events.

When each of the first four seals is opened, a horse and its rider appear and are described. These are commonly referred to as the four horsemen / four horses of the Apocalypse.

The opening of the fifth seal is followed by a vision of those that were "slain for the word of God"[3]

When the sixth seal is opened, there is a "great earthquake," and "the sun [will turn] as black as sackcloth" and "the moon [will become] blood red."[4] A slightly modified version of the latter part of this verse can be heard while travelling through the Tower in Realms of the Haunting.

When the seventh seal is opened, seven angels with trumpets begin to sound, one by one. The events of the seventh seal are further subdivided by the events following each angel sounding their trumpet. This seal is opened in Revelation 8[5], and the seventh angel does not sound until Revelation 11[6].

Bible scholars associate the seven seals with the seven Spirits of God[7], and other Bible 'sevens'[8]. The seals contain symbols commonly interpreted as death, famine, world wars, martyrdom, earthquakes, and the Antichrist. It also states that there will be "seven trumpets" announcing aspects of the "End Times": mankind being judged, seas turning to blood, sores on people's bodies, plagues, infertility, and the introduction of "seven bowls" (in King James Version called "vials"). These bowls are a third each of the sea, humankind, water, animal life, ships, crops, and earth, all engulfed by an infinite abyss.

Script[]

Adam: Still can't get my head around these. Here, you have a look. What was it Hawk said, they're the broken Seals of the Soulstone?
Rebecca: That's what he said. These are the fragments of six of the seven Seals that bind the Universe together. When the last is broken, the world will be plunged into darkness. If that happens Adam, Gaul will become host to the Power of all darkness... and Man will be doomed.
Adam: No shit!

Adam: These fragments have some kind of occult markings... runes or something.
Rebecca: They are occult symbols - Seals designed to capture the essence or quality of a spiritual power. A magic symbol that [possesses] a power of [its] own.

Adam: Where else are seals used? What would be their function?.
Rebecca: Most people think they're only used in rituals to summon demons. Those people are narrow-minded - dangerous: not only to themselves.

Adam: Fallen angels. Sounds dubious. As a child I remember Dad telling me the story of Lucifer being cast out of heaven. Theologically speaking, I always felt Lucifer was misunderstood.
Rebecca: Adam!

Adam: I always thought we created our own demons. I'm beginning to wonder.
Rebecca: Demons. The servants of the fallen angels and their Master - hideous creatures of the shadows.

Adam: The fragments of six of the seven Seals that bind the Universe together. When the last is broken, the world will be plunged into darkness. If that happens, Gaul becomes host to the Power of all darkness... Humanity will be doomed. Do I need them? Were they given to me only to bring me here as I originally thought? And where the Hell's the Seventh Seal?
